Volunteer Management Training Program
How to Set Up a Training
Here are five steps to help you organize a Volunteer Management Training (VMT) 101 event. Once you are ready to request a training, complete our Training Request Form
Step 1: Assess your training needs.
Review how you currently utilize volunteers, identify relationships between volunteers and the organization as a whole (including paid staff), and take some time to consider what improvements you would like to see in your organization’s use of volunteers. You may find it beneficial to look at our list of 12 Training Modules when brainstorming.
Step 2: Identify your existing resources.
Do you have facilities in which the training can take place? Do you have the ability within your organization to schedule time for staff and/or volunteers to attend training(s)? Which staff members would best benefit from training – line staff or direct supervisors? Do you want training for a short period in one day, a long period in one day, or multiple training sessions over multiple days (Looking again at our 12 Training Modules page will help you consider the time/length of training)? What capacity, time, or resource constraints might you be working with? Do you want the training to be open to the public?
Step 3: Complete a Volunteer Management Training Request Form.
The preparation work from steps 1 and 2 will help you in filling out this form as well as help us to respond to your request. After you complete this step Oregon Volunteers will contact you and begin processing your request.
Step 4: We match you with a trainer(s)
There may be several interactions with an Oregon Volunteers staff member if any additional information or clarity is needed. We will be working to match your request with an appropriate trainer or trainers based on your location and needs. After a trainer match is made the trainer will contact you directly to resolve final preparations and adjust training content as necessary. The trainer will need to confirm particular details and needs regarding materials, projector, room set up, and any unique training content details.
Step 5: Training
Each training attendee will need to sign in to training will will be important for program tracking. We hope you enjoy and benefit from the delivery of training to your organization. After each workshop module is over, attendees will be provided evaluations by the trainer.
After Step 5...
we hope the knowledge and tools gained through training assist your organization in accomplishing goals by leveraging volunteer resources. We will remain available should you decide that you would like further training in the Volunteer Management Training 101 Program through Oregon Volunteers.
