Volunteers help out at RedTail Farm in Bend for the MLK, Jr. Day of Service.

AmeriCorps member serving through the Heart of Oregon Corps spent their Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service by serving at Feedin' the People and RedTail Farm in Bend.

Feedin' the People is based out of RedTail Farm, an amazing place focused on organic produce and meats. The two organizations work in collaboration to grow produce and livestock to provide to low-income families.

Heart of Oregon Corps supported these efforts by maintaining the facilities they use every day to reach out to the community. Projects included moving hay bales and old fencing materials, relocating chicken coops and cleaning up the pens. They hosted 15 AmeriCorps members and five community volunteers.

“It’s great and refreshing to have hard-working, smiling faces of young volunteers who care about this type of work,” said Heidi Moir of RedTail Farm.
