Jefferson Public Radio highlights Oregon's volunteer tradition

by Jared Paben

"There has been always in this country, and particularly in the West, this sense of self-determination combined with recognition that, in order to be self-determined, we have a certain need to connect with others in making that happen."

- Kathleen Joy, executive director of Oregon Volunteers, speaking on Jefferson Public Radio about volunteerism in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest.

Jefferson Public Radio's Geoffrey Riley interviewed Oregon Volunteers Executive Director Kathleen Joy about new data that shows Oregon 11th in the country in terms of volunteerism. The data also showed an increase in the volunteerism rate among Oregon's Millennial generation. Oregon now has the third highest Millennial volunteering rate in the nation.
